OSX 10.8.3, Mac Pro 2008 8 core, ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB, 8 GB RAM.
Constantly freezing when in hangar. Too afraid to undock. Clearing cache etc does nothing. It is now literally unplayable. |

I can confirm that the only thing that helps is restarting OSX completely. But as time wears on the freeze problem gets more and more profound.
That's right, resetting EVE client does nothing. Only O/S restart helps.
I did not realise EVE uses WINE and Winelib, and I have to say that it's vaguely disappointing. I realise the costs involved with porting a game natively to a different system (and unix and Windows are as different from each other as they get), but EVE is not a small company.
Also I have noticed that the game freezes more often when the game window (I play in windowed mode) is in not in the foreground.
All my settings are set to max, by the way. I might try to tweak the game settings one by one to see if it matters.
Also the Help channel is extremely unhelpful with this issue as every single time I have mentioned it all I received was Mac-bashing. Once they even asked me to leave the channel and go to the OSX channel because I was asking an irrelevant question.
Edit: game has frozen when in the background and docked (hangar), when undocking (once), while orbiting POS, several times while in space. |

It is interesting to note that I am also running Transmission (torrent) in the background. |

Vincent Athena wrote:Wait..What? I never keep the game icon in the task bar. Of course its there when the game is running, but otherwise, no. And I seem to have almost no freezes.
(I do this because when eve runs, it auto-starts another application and you end up with 2 eve icons in the task bar. As I have 3 accounts that means I could have 6 icons in the task bar, and that's just more clutter than I want).
Do others who get freezes use the task bar for launching eve? Does anyone NOT using the task bar get alot of freezes? Or vice versa?
I always keep EVE in the taskbar. I don't see how this should crash the game, but I will try removing it and see if it makes a difference. At this stage I am ready to try anything. |

So, ever since I stopped using Transmission, the freezing went away. Although I am not 100% the two are connected. I haven't been doing much online. |

Confirming that running a torrent client with a torrent download active still universally crashes the EVE client. I now have to either do all my downloads during the night or when at work or not have torrents running at all if I want to play EVE. |

Vincent Athena wrote:That memory free app does not seem to help. Ive had it lock up twice with plenty of green, free memory. And right now I am playing and have Firefox running, with no green showing (22 mb out of 48 gig) and.. its not locking up.
Yeah, I can confirm that there is always plenty of memory left over. Torrents make EVE freeze almost instantly but sometimes it freezes without torrents (not that often on mine). |

Still freezing up. I am currently docked up a lot of the time and the EVE window is in the background. Often when I come back to it it is frozen. But not always. Sometimes it still freezes when I am in the window and playing.
Any torrent activity freezes up EVE almost instantly, so I no longer have a torrent client running while playing EVE.
This has been the case for probably over a year or more.
Can a professional debugger not debug this already? |
